Some Bounce House Rental history

It is popular belief that most fear and apprehension comes from not knowing. If you are feeling in-limbo about whether or not to rent a bounce house out of not being sure about what they are, how they are made and most importantly, how safe they have become, I encourage you to read on and learn a bit about the story of how these awesome party amusements came to be.

The first of its kind was inflated back in 1959 by a man named John Scurlock who was experimenting for various ways to create an inflatable tennis-court cover. During breaks, his employees would engage in a different kind of “water-cooler talk” than that which takes place today: they’d play! That is to say, they’d tumble and romp around all of their boss’ neat inflatable try-outs. Before long, his employees’ downtime inspired Scurlock to create more versatile inflatables for offering this type of fun and shortly enough, the seed was planted for what is now one of the most popular and entertaining sources of entertainment ever invented.

Realizing how lucrative his idea could be, Scurlock began the first inflatable rental company called Space Walk (This was also the name of his first rental product: a jumpy mattress with no sides and a pressurized inflatable top. Because the contraption would get hazardously hot, inflatable columns and net walls were added for aeration, creating a second version named the ”Jupiter Jump”). There are now hundreds of rental businesses around the U.S. By the way: Scurlock is also the founder of other inflatable apparatuses, his most prominent of which is probably the massive safety cushion used by rescue departments to catch victims who drop from buildings on fire.

Flash forward … and the inflatable bounce house rental industry continues to evolve as one of the most treasured sources of entertainment for all different types of fun fairs. Today, bounce houses are composed of a PVC or nylon and vinyl product that is as hard-wearing and resilient as it is springy and bendable – it can even withstand small ruptures or holes without risk of the whole contraption getting destroyed. As mentioned above, the inflatable is created so that air can circulate freely about it preventing it from getting dangerously hot, especially during the dog days of summer. Mesh walls keep over-enthused jumpers from tumbling their way out. Nowadays, in fact, bounce houses are so structurally fine that even adults can take part in the gala!
